Overview of the iPhone 5’s design

You may have been disappointed when the iPhone 4S was released because it’s just basically an iPhone 4 with a few added features. Make iPhone 5 different. It’s a completely redesigned iPhone. It has a taller screen and a lighter, thinner and less volume built.

“It’s not just bigger. It’s just right” -Apple

A bigger screen is one of the most requested feature on an iPhone. Well, Apple granted the request by making the screen taller but made sure it’s not over-sized. The iPhone 5 now has a 4-inch retina display, almost nine (9) millimeters taller than the iPhone 4S but its width is the same as the latter’s.

With its 4.87 inches height and 2.31 inches width, iPhone 5 can be held comfortably with one hand. You can still type, browse, go over your apps and play your favorite iOS games with a single hand, something you cannot do with over-sized smartphones. A taller screen also means more displayed entries on your inbox, more events on your calendar and one more row of apps on your home screen, making it from 4 rows to 5.

It’s the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever.

It is also lighter than the latter by 20%. It measures just 7.6 mm thin and weight only 112 grams. It’s aluminum body and its internal components were made and designed with an unprecedented level of precision making it 12% less in volume than iPhone 4S.

The retina display gets more vibrant too.

This resulted to an 18% more pixels delivering an impressive 1136 x 640 resolution. The display’s color saturation was also improved by 44%  compared to the iPhone 4S.

iPhone 5’s new color

For several generations of iPhone, the device has been available in two color, white and black. The iPhone 5 gets the same color but its metal back has a new touch of Slate for the black model and Silver for the white model.
