You cannot expect a Kindle Fire to last for several weeks with a single charge unlike the rest of the Kindle Family because of the very nature of the product, a tablet. With Wi-Fi turned off, it can only last up to eight (8) hours if you use it for reading continuously, seven (7) for video playback. The battery life, as with any other tablet depends largely on its use and the apps being run. It takes four (4) to fully charge the device.

Currently, the Kindle Fire only supports Wi-Fi connection with 802.11 b/g/n standard. It does not come with a 3G version, something that the iPad has.
